How Polythene Products Can Help Protect Your Warehouse Goods

Warehouse Safety & Warehouse Goods Protection

Polythene is a remarkably versatile product, and the development of better polythene materials over the years has revolutionised the way that we package products and protect valuable goods. Whether you are looking to protect pallets during transit or if you wish to keep goods safe whilst in storage at the warehouse, polythene wrap can provide the best solution on the market.

The strength of polythene as a wrapping product makes it perfect from the perspective of safety, too. Government regulations ensure that the products on the market are strictly tested for quality. Increased environmental responsibility within the industry has also made many polythene-based products more efficient for businesses and better for the planet.

Is High Speed Rail The Future of European Freight?

HSR & Freight Benefits

There has been huge debate about high-speed rail in the past couple of years, with the proposed construction of HS2 between London Euston, the Midlands, and Scotland. Many argue that the UK lags behind in terms of its rail network, and HS2 is put forward as a development that will bring Britain into line with much of Europe.

The government argues that HS2 will bring multiple economic benefits to many areas of the UK, but there has been strong opposition from environmental groups, local landowners, and economists across the country. This opposition is being stubbornly fought off in the courts, with the view that high-speed rail is the way forward and should spearhead the UK’s economic push into the coming decades.

Pallets, Packaging, & Forklifts: A History of Shipping

The Evolution Of The Wooden Pallets & Shipping

Today’s pallets are designed to withstand great weights and to be lifted by a forklift on and off trucks, ships and planes. Without the pallet, the global economy might not be as global as it is.

The pallet is an offshoot of the skid. The difference being that the skid has no bottom boards. Modern day pallets are made from plastic, aluminium, and most commonly wood. Wooden pallets are price effective and structurally capable of holding large weight bearing loads.

The invention of the forklift and the structural improvements in the pallet to accommodate the forklift quickly revolutionised the shipping and transport industry. For example, a typical boxcar filled with 13,000 cases of canned goods took 3 days to unload in the 1930’s. With cases mounted on pallets and with the use of a forklift, this task today takes about 4 hours. The pallet allows goods to get loaded, transported and unloaded much more quickly than in earlier generations.

Pallet Protection – Keeping Your Goods Protected During Transit

Pallet Protection – Keeping Your Goods Protected During Transit

Warehouses and heavy-goods transit vehicles can be dangerous places for pallet loads, so at Marpak we are committed to providing premium packaging solutions to protect your valuable goods from being damaged or tampered with during the journey to their destination.

So how do you go about protecting your pallets effectively?

Loading Your Pallets

Before you add your protection wrap to your goods, you need to load up your pallets properly. Firstly, it is important to ensure that the pallet itself is not already damaged. Then, when loading up the items, these should not exceed the dimensions of the pallet itself. Keeping the goods within or in line with the edges of the wooden pallet ensures that you can proceed to wrap the load to stabilise and secure it in transit. Overhanging boxes are always likely to get knocked in storage and in transit, so letting the edges of the pallet take the hits will keep your goods safe.

The Role of Packaging in Modern Consumption

The Packaging Federation has compiled an industry study of the market and its impact upon society, focusing on the way consumers choose to live. This study and many others like it indicate that packaging is here to stay. Rather than close an industry that employs many people and contributes trillions of dollars to the global GDP, perhaps we should concentrate on the task at hand, finding sustainable solutions that work.

The Difference Between Shrink And Non-Shrink Packaging

The Difference Between Shrink And Non-Shrink Packaging

Everything in our collection is manufactured to BRC packaging standards, ensuring only the premium materials get through rigorous checks. But what is the difference between shrink and non-shrink packaging solutions? Which one should you order to ensure that your goods are packaged safely and securely?

Shrink Covers

Shrink Wrap is a clear plastic film that isn’t able to stretch. Shrink covers are usually perfect for professionally packaging items, ensuring that they are protected from tampering and other damage. Usually, shrink wrap is used to wrap individual items, but it can also be used to keep multiple things together. Heat can be applied to shrink wrap in order for it to fit the item perfectly, keeping everything securely contained. This heat can be applied via heat gun or via a larger heat tunnel.

The Importance of Packaging Processes

Logistics is in the news, and for good reason. In the new global economy, large international corporations can transact business in an instant in small communities millions of miles away. Logistics is what enables businesses large, medium and small businesses to participate in this incredibly active marketplace.

WikiAnswers describes logistics as: “The complete process involving planning, managing and controlling the flow of goods and services, information, real-time data and human resources from the point of origin to the point of destination. There is hardly any manufacturing or marketing activity that can be achieved without the support of an effective logistical department.”

To be effective, a logistics department must engage a number of important aspects:

  • Material handling
  • Warehousing
  • Information
  • Transportation
  • Packaging
  • Inventory management

“The primary duty of an effective logistics system is to ensure geographical repositioning of unfinished goods, and it is also concerned with the finished inventories of the organization being at the required place at the lowest possible cost.”

Polythene & plastics find reprieve in the “Fresher for longer” campaign

For a long time now, plastics and polythene have been on the receiving end of a barrage of criticism and condemnation. They have been vilified as being some of the world’s worst polluters and we have seen consistent calls for the control and even outright banning of their use. This has made business very difficult for companies that produce and process plastic and polythene products. However, recent developments seem to be changing the tide. The Fresher for longer campaign which is an initiative of several UK organisations, seeks to educate the public on the important role of packaging in global food security.
