Marpak Extrusions is one of the first film producers in the UK to offer polythene packaging using Braskem’s revolutionary polymer, Green PE.
The product, which has received acclaim and awards worldwide, is obtained from a renewable source, sugarcane ethanol. This initiative highlights our commitment to minimise the impact that supply chain activities have on the environment. Given our market leading status, introducing Green PE based packaging into our product mix sends out a clear message of intent, which is indicative of the direction in which the company must move in the coming years.
We can offer our customers the option of using polymeric biomolecules, such as Marpak Green from Braskem. We can also offer degradable and compostable products. Marpak Green is an environmentally-friendly polymer made from sugarcane, a 100% renewable resource from brazil.
The Sugarcane is grown in the central refion of Brazil, located 2000km away from the rainforest and using only 0.02% of Brazil’s arable land.
Marpak Green film retains the same functional and recycling properties as regular PE, whilst its production process removes CO2 from the atmosphere. The product is 100% recyclable.
Chemical recycling, or feedstock recycling, is where post-consumer plastic waste is converted into valuable chemicals to be re-used as feedstock.
Although great progress is being made in this field, it is yet to be BRC approved, which creates limitaions. Marpak is, however, keeping on top of the developments in this area and customers that are interested in more information about it should contact their account manager.
Marpak is proud to offer Lumicene & Marpak ST. This offers double the downgauging potential, resulting in a 10% cost reduction, 20% CO2 reduction and 20% weight reduction on our customers product.
Choosing Lumicene Marpak ST means that a customer can have a thinner film that retains the same strength and rigidity of thicker films, substantially lowering the environmental footprint of the film.
As it is based on metallocene catalyst, Marpak ST gives excellent aesthetics as well.
Marpak can assit its customers in collecting the used polythene from their clients. The material can be brought back directly to Marpak or to one of the customer’s central sites, at which point it can be collected, returned to Marpak and re-granulated. To provide a closed-loop economy, Marpak would then suggest using the recycled material in the customer’s base sheets. The base sheet would have similar characteristics to the current base sheet formulation. We can then test the material onsite, to ensure that the recycled base sheets meet the requested specification.

Applicable across our whole product range, Marpak Green film retains the same functional and recycling properties as regular PE whilst its production process removes CO2 from the atmosphere and utilises a 100% renewable resource (Brazilian Sugarcane)
